Story behind your derby name and number: Fresh meat writes their last name on their uniform, so I had my last name, “Roecks” written on the back of my shirt. During one of my first practices with the full league the other girls were calling me “Rocket” and it stuck.
Position: Jammer
Height: 5’2″
Love: I love my derby sisters, and I love the constant challenge both mentally and physically. In many ways derby is the hardest thing I’ve ever taken on and it is filled with hard-won rewards. Derby is more than a sport, it’s a mindset and a community.
Love less: Constantly challenging yourself can lead to constantly beating-up on yourself, or pushing your body further than you should. It’s hard to find the time to take a break from derby and once you do, the first thing you miss is being on the track with your teammates.
Derby mantra: You can do this.
Derby song: Pat Benatar – Invincible
Derby hero: Outside of the league, Stef Mainey, she’s amazing! She’s strong and plays smart.
Inside of the league: Sinnabar, Bang She, and Pax Punches. I’m always learning from them how to be a better a jammer. Sinna is tricky and always finds a way to exploit an opening, Bang She is fearless and tenacious, and Pax has amazing form that makes her unpredictable on the track.
